My parents' wickedest deed? While all my friends laughed uproariously but innocently at the xenophobia, misogyny, violence, racism and stereotyping of comics with gloriously evocative names, The Dandy, The Beano and The Topper, with such fantastic characters as Desperate Dan, The Bash Street Kids and Dennis The Menace, I had The Children's Newspaper. Misguided, fatuous, do-gooding nonsense, which perhaps explains the yawning gap in my personality and my liking for the silly. I'm just making up for lost time.
